Republican/military-intelligence propaganda posted on the front page of the Times in renewal of information warfare offensive.

Robert F. Worth has written that Said Ali al-Shihri, a former Guantanamo detainee, has become "deputy leader of Al Qaeda's Yemeni branch."

His status was announced by an Internet statement by the militant group and was confirmed by a U.S. counterterrorism official.

Hmmm... Did the U.S. counterterrorism official have a name, a department, a job description, a record, or a superior?

After all the military intelligence public manipulation of the past, why would any intelligent, reasonable American citizen give any credence to a story in the New York Times based on such a source?

They wouldn't.

And no journalist would publish such a story unless he or she had a propaganda motive.
